What is WP2???
We need your help! We are creating a completely handicapped accessible playground in our community. We are working with the City of Farmington on the probable site in Engler Park, next to the baseball diamond. This will be the first playground of it's kind, within a 100+ mile radius!
If interested on being on this committee, send us an email! Or just come to a WP2 committee meeting! Currently we are working on grants and the various ways to fund our project.

WP2 Current Status...
Our project's price tag is $250,000. WOW! That's a lot, right!? That price includes all the equipment, the concrete pad, rubber surfacing, 6 foot fencing, benches, and installation. We are planning on gathering a HUGE crowd of volunteers to help us install our playground and possibly some business donations of materials (concrete, fencing, etc...) to help decrease the cost a bit. Right now, we are in the tedious process of Grant writing. Once we have a large amount of our budget covered by said grants, we will begin the corporate and private phase of our fundraising efforts. Though our current focus is mainly on federal and state grants, we will, of course, gladly and graciously, accept any donations at any time. For donation information, please see the "Make a Donation" page. Thanks so much for your interest and support!
In case you are just coming into the scene, This is the "official" story of WP2
We are in the process of creating our own, inclusive play area for the community. In July 2009, we had our first meeting at the LIFE center with the Farmington City Administrator, Gregory Beavers, who was interested in our ideas and plans to help make our dream a reality. Our second meting with Mr Beavers and the City of Farmington's Public Service committee, was in September 2009. We discussed the possible sites for our future playground, as well as, whether or not to adapt some of the current area parks equipment. The current area parks, mostly meet ADA standards, but by no means are "inclusive", as ADA standards are pretty lax. Inclusive, means that there is access to all features by people of all abilities. This includes but is not limited to, wheelchair accessibility to and from the play site, as well as transfer stations on the equipment itself. We also discussed possible grant funding for our project. The committee was pretty eager to work with us on our project, especially, once they realized it would be the first "inclusive" playground within 100+ miles. We have met several times with Stewart Mackay, local rep for All Inclusive Rec, to plan our features and discuss the financial aspect. In January 2010, we met with Stewart and several members of Farmington's City Parks Council to go over the final plans and discuss grants and other types of funding that could be available through the city. Future playground meetings TBA....Please come and show your support as we try to create a safe place for all children to play together, regardless of their ability.
